Male Factor
Male-factor infertility occurs in about 40 percent of couples who are unable to achieve a pregnancy. Severe male-factor infertility accounts for 25 percent of infertility. Less than 10 percent of male infertility can be successfully treated with surgical or medical therapies.
For those that cannot be treated by surgery or medical therapies, there are some other options for couples desiring pregnancy.
Some will be helped by superovulation with drugs such as Pergonal®, Metrodin®, and Humegon®, along with intrauterine insemination (IUI). Others might benefit from standard in vitro fertilization (IVF).
For those who are unsuccessful with these therapies, there is now another promising therapy called intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI).
